1971 Dodge Challenger

Challenger was Dodge's entry into the popular Pony Car field, but it was the last car to join the party, and it came in just as the muscle car era was waning. Built on the mid-sized E-Body, the Challenger could accommodate every engine available, from the Slant-6 to the 426 Hemi. The last Hemi cars were built in 1971, but even 340 and 383 Challengers are potent machines. Fake Hemis can sell for shocking amounts - the real thing can easily go over $500,000 - so beware of forgeries that claim to be real. Also, watch for structural rust, especially in the rear axle kick-up area. A basic 1973-1974 Challenger with a 340 can be had under $20,000, but the 440 and Hemi cars are all in 6-figure territory. Let your budget be your guide.
